We've been learning about testing materials and designs and building things with them.

Last week we built and tested towers made of toothpicks to see if they were windproof and strong. Students chose the joiner they wanted to use: either marshmallows, plasticine or puffed wheat. Pictures coming soon.

We also learned how to be safe while testing and building and created safety comic strips to share some tips with others.

In Math, we continued learning mental math strategies like the compensation strategy.

While reading The One and Only Ivan, we came to a really exciting (but not so great for Mack) part and are looking forward to finding out what happens to Ruby and Ivan. We think they are going to a zoo, which will be better for them than the Exit 8 Big Top Mall. While reading we've been making inferences using our background knowledge and clues from the text.

This week, we will be participating in a service project to support a charity that will help wildlife in Australia. We will be making a koala plush and will need volunteers to help us with the sewing and gluing. If you are interested in helping and have a volunteer security clearance, please contact Ms. Mawani.

We will be selling our koala plush toys at Math Night.
