Guided and Home Reading

We have been working at guided reading activity stations this week. Ask your student which ones they worked at. Students are encouraged to read for at least twenty minutes each evening to reinforce reading strategies that we are developing in class. They should be selecting books of interest from our Hawkwood Learning Commons, and also have access to Raz Kids for reading material. It is always helpful for students to read aloud to an adult to develop their fluency and get help with decoding and understanding unfamiliar words.

This Week at School

Students are invited to wear their pajamas to school on Friday, January 17th, 2020, to stay cozy on another cold day. We have started our Testing Materials and Designs unit by learning about vocabulary. Some of the words we have learned include: structure, engineer, stability, materials, construct, architect, blueprint We are also learning about mental math strategies and number properties and practicing them by playing card games like Salute, I Spy, Addition War and more.
Early Dismissal tomorrow. We will be writing in our Home Journals tomorrow. Please bring them to school. Ask me about CPAWS and look at these ideas for action challenges: Action Challenges
